Archived and emulated: If Monks Had Macs Original 1988 Version

I’m guessing that most readers of VintageAppleMac.com will have heard of HyperCard before. If not, it was a revolutionary piece of Apple software that allowed the creation of multimedia applications using the concept of HyperText long before Tim Berners-Lee had dreamed up the World Wide Web. A lot of very creative people used it to create a dizzying range of artworks, from books to games to mapping utilities and much more. One very early work utilising this exciting new medium was the essentially unclassifiable “If Monks Had Macs”, and I’m happy to present an emulated-in-browser version of it for your delight.
Go check it out and explore this peculiar but impressive piece of software. Before you load the If Monks Had Macs stacks you’ll need to turn the emulated Mac’s volume up in the Sound control panel to enjoy the snippets of music in the program.
I have also included the subsequent add-on stack “The White Rose”, which is all about the resistance group in Nazi Germany.
