Archived: Ubuntu 5.10 for PPC Mac

Here’s a cool find that I picked up from eBay for a couple of quid, Ubuntu 5.10 for Mac!

Open source software, making people happy!

I’ve got a Mac Mini G4 (the 1.5Ghz “silent upgrade” model) so installing this OS will be a neat thing to do with it. I’ve had this Mac Mini for a while but have struggled to think what to do with it; the G4 Mini is too new for OS9 (without hackery) but too old to be a useful web or production machine. Gaming on it under Tiger or Leopard is an option, but I already have a G5 iMac that I do that on! So, Linux it is!

I have, of course, placed the Ubuntu 5.10 CDs in the Internet Archive; there’s an install CD and a “Live CD” that you can use first to test the OS out before you commit to an install. I’ll be installing this at some point in the next week or so and will report back on my open source adventure!
