Archived: Volume 1 Issue 1 of Apple Business magazine, from March 1988
Published: Thursday, 5th December 2019
It’s been a while since I last updated the site. I’ve been very busy “in real life” and have also had a few other projects vying for my attention. But that’s no excuse for neglecting my wonderful Macintosh hobby and I will start to put that right immediately. So, without further ado, allow me to present the March 1988 edition of Apple Business magazine, scanned, archived and preserved.

I have a stack of about a dozen issues of Apple Business magazine, a UK-based mag published by International Magazines Plc and aimed at the corporate/business Macintosh user. Starting at the beginning, I have scanned the very first issue and placed it in the Internet Archive in Comic Book Reader format and on VintageAppleMac.com as a PDF.
The magazine opens with a brief editorial and mission statement from the publisher:
Apple Business is a new type of magazine for a new
type of reader. This is the world’s first glossy
management magazine to concentrate on computer solutions
for business and, in particular, on Apple solutions.
This is appropriate as it was Apple which first put
computing power into the hands of individuals and
today it is Apple that is providing business executives
with the power to solve problems.
Each month we will be examining those companies
and organisations which have applied Apple-based
solutions and we will be providing news and detailed
technical advice to help Apple users get the most from
their equipment and software. In addition to our team
of business writers we have assembled an outstanding
group of technical writers who will provide
information about Apple, Apple software and about
interfacing with machines such as DEC, IBM and ICL.
Despite its title, this magazine is entirely independent
of Apple. Although Apple provides substantial
cooperation in terms of editorial information, Apple
Business is free to be objective and we intend to
provide our readers with fair and unbiased comment and
appraisal in all areas concerning Apple and the third
party vendors. Apple Business will be published
monthly and is available free of charge to readers who
are eligible to qualify. We hope you enjoy this first
issue of Apple Business.

You can tell it’s a magazine about business by the portrait of Richard Branson on the front cover, in his younger days before he went mental and started suing the NHS.

Evil billionaires aside, it’s quite an interesting read of a magazine. A little dry in places but mildly fascinating to see how the Macintosh line was being put to work in various industries. Go check it out!
What I actually found most lovely about it was the fantastic high-end 80s-style full-page adverts. Here’s a few of my favourites:

Glorious! 😀
I’ll be scanning and archiving my further issues of Apple Business in due course, so keep your eyes peeled!
